Your parents are an instrumental part of who you are. From your first steps across the living room floor to your steps of achievement across the stage at graduation, your parents have watched you grow and have contributed to elements of your personality. Perhaps you never even realized the extent of this dedication until you became a parent yourself. When a parent is facing a life-limiting illness, it’s difficult to process the emotions surrounding the event. During times like this, we find that it is important to capture your parent’s legacy. Hospice care should be considered for anyone with a life-limiting or terminal illness. It is not a place to go when you have given up or only for the last days of life. Hospice is a program that helps patients and their families live as fully, comfortably and independently as they can – when curative treatment is no longer possible.
A care team meets patients’ and families’ physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. Patients and families need to take advantage of this entitlement to care and not wait until the last few weeks of life.
